With the celebration of Environment Day, which is commemorated on June 5, a date that remembers the importance of protecting the planet and working for a more responsible future, Xàbia has held the First Edition of the Environmental Awards.

The event, chaired by the mayor of Xàbia, Rosa Cardona, and organized by the Department of the Environment, within the framework of the 1st Medi Ambient Week of Xàbia, has served to present the Environmental Awards of Xàbia, which have been divided into three categories, each one recognizing different aspects of the environmental commitment in the community.

El sustainable company award was awarded to Bio Jardín Sostenible, highlighting its dedication to ecological and responsible business practices.

Secondly, special recognitions were given to the Centre Excursionista de Xàbia, in honor of its ongoing work in the preservation of the nature through reforestation, cleaning and conservation of the natural environment.

However, the individual environmental action award was deserted, which highlights the need for greater commitment and individual participation in environmental initiatives.

The jury that awarded the prizes was made up of municipal technicians, who studied the submitted applications and, in a meeting held on June 3, decided that this company and the Centre Excursionista were the deserving recipients of this award, which aims to recognize the work de companies and groups defending the environment.

The event was attended by the mayor, Rosa Cardona and the Councilor for the Environment, juanlu cardona, as well as with Jan Van Eijle (owner of Bio Jardín Sostenible) and Rafa Serra (from the Center Excursionista Xàbia), along with company employees, members of the CEX and other groups involved in the protection and care of the environment in Xàbia as ' Jávea, I want you clean' or the Red Cross.

After collecting the award, Jan Van Eijle, founder of the company Bio Jardín Sostenible in 2000, recognized that it was an honor to "receive this award", which he dedicated to his employees, clients and suppliers. The businessman stressed "we convince clients of the importance of using native plants in their gardens" and recalled that the Montgo It is the natural park with the greatest biodiversity in Europe, with more than 600 species. "Imagine the natural heritage we have in Xàbia," he concluded.

For his part, Rafa Serra, representing the Center Excursionista Xàbia, stressed that the entire group is aware of the care of the mountains "before sport, the first thing is to take care of the mountains." Some principles
that they instill in the little ones through the Muntanya School.

For her part, the mayor, Rosa Cardona, stressed the importance of these awards as an incentive for the community and local businesses to continue striving for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. Cardona stressed that "Xàbia is privileged by the sea and the land", by the sea "we work to protect the oceanic posidonia" and by land the work focuses on "the subsoil and the aquifers." For this reason, both the municipal water company, Amjasaand Town Hall It is focused on improving the sanitation network.

Likewise, he highlighted that the City Council and the municipal water company, Amjasa, "have raised awareness to achieve the integral water cycle", so that "we can recover the water that goes to the sea, to water public and private gardens, as well as for agriculture".

Before this first edition of the Environmental Awards, the first mayor stated that "this is just the beginning of a path in which we must all participate to protect and conserve our environment."

The problem with wipes

Finally, the mayor sent a message to all attendees and to the neighbors, "I ask you please not to use wipes in the toilet, they are waste that ends up in the sea and clogs the pumps," which causes that since Amjasa have to make continuous repairs.

I do nothing but collect garbage that others throw away and there is always more than before... It's exasperating. Look how the shoulders of the small local roads are... The population of Jávea in general is not well educated and they should insist much more with many informative signs and/or impose more fines or educate by any means possible.
    Thank you very much
