El Plenary of Javea Town Hall approved in its last session, held this Thursday January 29an institutional declaration of support for primary sector, with the unanimous support of all political groups with municipal representation.
The agreement highlights the strategic importance of farminglivestock farming and fishery for the present and future of the municipality.
The text approved by the municipal corporation underlines the fundamental role played by the primary sector not only in the local economy, but also in social cohesion, landscape preservation and the guarantee of a local food supply, of quality and safe.
According to the statement, these activities are essential for the maintenance of employment, the stabilization of the population and the care of the natural environment that defines Xàbia.
Structural difficulties and new challenges: commitments and promotion
The institutional agreement recognizes the structural difficulties These are the challenges faced by professionals in the sector, including increased production costs, excessive bureaucracy, lack of generational renewal, pressure on profit margins, and unequal competition in the markets.
Added to this are the challenges arising from the transition towards colors more sustainable in a context marked by the climate crisis. At this point, the Town Hall emphasizes that sustainability must be accompanied by profitability, as an indispensable condition to guarantee a dignified life for those who work the land and the sea.
Amongst the commitments undertaken by the Xàbia City Council the continuity of the local measures to promote local products. These include promotion campaigns of the consumption of local and seasonal products, actions coordinated with the Municipal market, trade and catering, as well as the promotion of initiatives in responsible public procurement within the municipal sphere.
The Plenary also urges the Valencian generalitat and Government of Spain to strengthen policies supporting the primary sector, especially in areas such as generational renewal, training, modernization, innovation, and improved energy and water efficiency. It also calls for progress in the administrative simplification and the reduction of bureaucracy.
At the European level, the declaration calls on EU, national and regional institutions to guarantee fair market conditions, strengthening transparency in the food chain, reciprocity of standards in international trade and the activation of agile mechanisms to address potential market distortions.
Finally, the City Council expresses its support for the representative organizations of the sector, such as cooperatives, brotherhoods and professional associations, and agrees to forward this declaration to the Government of the Valencian Generalitat, the Government of Spain and the various political groups with representation in the Valencian Courts, the Congress of Deputies and the European Parliament.
