Xàbia preserves a medieval cemetery under its Tourist Office

11 October 2025 - 08: 00

the remains of a 14th-century Christian cemetery remain preserved under the current Tourist Office from the historic center of Xàbia, offering a unique testimony of the medieval past of the locality.

More than twenty graves underground

This archaeological site, documented in the year 2006, corresponds to a Christian necropolis used between the 14th century and much of the 15th century. During the intervention, a section of the cemetery that is still preserved in the basement of the building was identified, where they were found more than twenty graves. These graves, dug directly into the natural terrain, present a east-west orientation, following the funeral rituals typical of the period. The Municipal Archaeologist was Josep Antoni Casabo Bernat.

From the Javea Town Hall Both residents and visitors are invited to get to know this historic enclave, accessible within the Tourist Office facilities. You can also expand the information through the section of culture and heritage – architectural heritage on the official website of the council: xabia.org.
