El PSOE Xàbia has defended the need to establish a total moratorium on the granting of new licenses for tourist accommodation (VUT), considering that the municipality "cannot sustain" the current number, much less continue growing as proposed by the governing team, made up of PP y CpJ.
According to the socialists, the proposal presented by the councilor of Urbanism, Pere Sapena, opens the door to a significant increase in the stock of tourist accommodation through a system of different maximum percentages depending on the areas of the municipality: a 7% in the historic center, 15% in Duanes, 25% in Tossalet, among other areas.
More than 1.000 additional tourist accommodations
The PSOE points out that if these percentages were applied to the actual number of existing homes, Xàbia would go from a little over 4.000 current VUTs a exceed 5.000. For the Socialist councilor Vincent MirallesThis scenario is "unacceptable" in the current context:The housing is untouchable for the neighbors, there are no year-round rentals, and problems of coexistence increase every season.", he pointed out.
The PSOE emphasizes that the debate is not limited solely to access to housing, but also to... municipality saturation"If we add 1.000 tourist accommodations, we are introducing approximately..." 3.000 more tourists"Does anyone believe that this is possible without seriously affecting our quality of life?" the socialists ask.
The socialists warn that this growth would have direct consequences for the natural resources, infrastructure and public servicesIn addition to other factors such as illegal rentals, the new hotel rooms or the homes that, despite having been deregistered as VUTs, continue to be offered to the tourist market under other legal formulas.
For all these reasons, the Socialist Municipal Group has reiterated its commitment to a total moratorium and has called for "reflection and understanding" from the other political groups to put a stop to what they consider a serious situation for the future of Xàbia.
The PSOE has also questioned the absence of technical reports They argue that the limits proposed by the local government, which they describe as "arbitrary," should be endorsed. They also point out that the percentages have varied at different stages of the debate and that limiting vacation rentals based on housing type was previously considered, an option now discarded without prior consensus.
Finally, the socialists have warned that They will use all the political tools at their disposal to force an in-depth debate on the tourism model. In his opinion, the decision must be made in the municipal plenary sessionwith a clear stance from all groups and assuming responsibilities "towards the residents of Xàbia".

Chulvi and Miralles's poor memory is worrying. They opened the door, and wide open. Now they've forgotten.
The lack of shame is worrying.
Don't be fooled! They want to cover up the failure of their own state housing laws with arbitrary bans, hijacking residents' right to decide about their own private property. Xàbia isn't being closed, it's being managed!
