The Fogueres The Sant Joan 2026 festivities have officially kicked off in Xàbia with a large turnout and festive atmosphere, although the first events were also marred by several incidents involving a group of young people that forced the intervention of both the organizers and the Local Police.
The incident occurred during the opening proclamation of the town's festival, where insults, provocations, and tense moments escalated into a near-fight near the church square. The situation caused unrest among those present and required police intervention to restore order.
Following these events, the Fogueres Commission and the Council of Parties They released a statement expressing their "outright and absolute" rejection of any act of violence, whether physical or verbal. In the statement, both organizations described the events as "completely intolerable" and reiterated that festivals should be a space for coexistence, respect, and brotherhood.
Furthermore, the organizers warned that any incident that might occur during the traditional Cants de Sant Joan could result in the immediate termination of the event. They also announced that appropriate measures would be considered regarding those involved in behavior contrary to the festive spirit.
Although the Cants de Sant Joan were eventually able to take place in their entirety, further tense incidents occurred during the event. According to several accounts, some young people continued to disrupt the peace and provoke members of the Quintà 2026, which again required the intervention of the local police.
Despite these incidents, the Fogueres Commission highlights the exemplary attitude shown by the vast majority of participants and the effort made by the organization to prevent isolated incidents from affecting the development of the festive program.
Furthermore, a new statement from the Commission expresses gratitude and acknowledges the positive attitude of the 2026 graduating class, 'A Trompicons', in light of the situation. Fogueres Xàbia states that "the possibility of excluding the identified individuals from the 2027 graduating class will be considered, as will the pre-graduation dinner scheduled for June 24th."
Both the Commission and the Department of Festivals have stressed the need to experience Les Fogueres with mutual respect, remembering that these are celebrations designed to share, enjoy and strengthen the bonds between neighbors, peñas, quintos and visitors.
