It was just after 10:00 a.m. this Tuesday when a loud scream startled residents in the Plaza de la Iglesia in Xàbia. An attempted robbery was taking place inside a shop. It was a jewelry store, where only one of the two shop assistants and owners was present, as the other had briefly stepped out of the store.
According to municipal sources, two men entered the premises at that moment with the intention of stealing valuables. During the robbery, the men pushed the shop assistant, who reacted by screaming for help.
The quick alert allowed people in the vicinity to be mobilized, which proved crucial in preventing the robbery from being carried out.
One of the alleged perpetrators was arrested at the same location. Church Square thanks to citizen collaboration. "It was a former soldier who managed to detain the alleged thief until the arrival of the officers."Finally, both men were arrested and the attempted robbery was thwarted.

The second person involved was intercepted in the Thiviers neighborhood by the councilor of Sports, Tony Molinawho managed to detain him until the officers arrived. According to the councilman himself, speaking to this publication, the arrest came about almost by chance. As the councilman was heading towards where the first thief was being held, he noticed another person behaving suspiciously and starting to run. "That's when I followed him. He was taking off clothes along the way to avoid being identified. After running through the streets of the historic center, he headed towards the Thiviers neighborhood where I finally managed to catch him and subdue him until the officers arrived."
Municipal sources have highlighted the importance of citizen collaboration and the quick reaction that made it possible to prevent the robbery and proceed with the arrest of those involved.
