Casa Mediterráneo launches the third edition of its journalism prize on sustainable tourism in Xàbia

Casa Mediterráneo is launching a new edition of its international award with the aim of highlighting the role of journalism and dissemination in promoting a sustainable financing model in the Mediterranean.

Casa Mediterráneo has convened the III International Prize for Journalism and Sustainable Tourism, City of Xàbia, an initiative that aims to recognize and promote the work of journalists, communicators, disseminators and content creators who contribute, through their work, to to promote responsible, sustainable tourism that respects the environment and cultural identity of the territories of the mediterranean basin.

Casa Mediterráneo is a public consortium composed of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Valencian generalitat, Provincial Deputation of Alicante and the municipalities of Alicante, Benidorm and XàbiaThis institution promotes strategies and programs aimed at the sustainable and socio-economic development of the Mediterranean, as well as Strengthening mutual understanding between Spain and the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

This award was created with the intention of raise awareness society on the importance of sustainable tourism in a particularly vulnerable basin such as the Mediterranean coastand is aimed at information and dissemination professionals that they have made relevant works in this field.

Award categories

The contest includes five categories:

  • Written Journalism, for reports or articles published in print or digital media.
  • Audiovisual Productionwhich includes documentaries, videos or reports broadcast on TVradio or digital platforms.
  • Data Journalism and Digital Innovation, destined to interactive projects, infographics, or data-driven research.
  • Blog, for chronicles, reports or interviews published in author blogs from countries of the mediterranean basin.
  • Scientific Analysis and Dissemination, which includes reports, technical analyses or informative articles on sustainable tourism and Climate change risks in the Mediterranean.

Requirements, schedule and submission of applications

They will be able to participate Journalists, communicators, photographers, scientists and content creators of any nationality, with particular interest in the Mediterranean area.

The work must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2025 and may be presented in Spanish, English, or any of the official languages ​​of the countries in the Mediterranean areaEach participant may submit one maximum of two jobs per category.

The proposals should address issues related to Sustainable and responsible tourism in the Mediterranean, including, among other topics, the environmental conservation, protection of cultural heritage, the impact of tourism on local communities, circular economy, innovative initiatives in sustainable tourism or analysis of the impact of climate change on the tourism sector.

The assignments must be submitted in digital to email premioscasamediterraneo@casa-mediterraneo.es, accompanied by a Curriculum vitae and the document attached to the terms and conditions.

El submission deadline will open the February 9th 2026 and the March 9th 2026.

Los finalists will be announced in March 2026 and the award ceremony will take place in the city ​​of Xàbia.

El jury It will be composed of renowned professionals in the fields of journalism, the sustainable tourism and the environmental protection.

The jury president, without voting rights and of a delegable nature, will correspond to General Manager of Casa Mediterráneo, acting as secretary a representative of the Association of Journalists of the Province of Alicante.

The prize consists of a unique prize endowed with 3.500 euros or with a commemorative trophythe jury may award a special mention if he so chooses. award-winning author must attend in person to the handover ceremony in Xàbia.

The authors will retain the Copyright of their work. However, the finalists and winners accept that their works may be disseminated through the communication channels of the City of Xàbia and Casa Mediterráneo, To to raise awareness of sustainable tourism and best practices in the Mediterranean.
